Truth Is Not a Feeling
I can’t believe how bad the flu is this year. After listening to the news and seeing numerous posts on Fb from friends about how horrible they are feeling because of a horrible cough, the fever, and the feeling that they’re going to die – makes me want to stay home until it’s all over. If only we could handle everything in life that way, right?
Several years ago, I was having dinner with a good friend. It was one of those times when we ended up having a lot of serious things to talk about. After a lot of talking, I remember her looking straight at me and telling me that no one should let their feelings or fears be the deciding factor in their decisions or actions. I never really understood that until now.
Being a woman, I know how we think. I know how we have this gut feeling about things. Whether those feelings are good or bad, when we rely on them – we sometimes jump to conclusions. Make bold statements. Make bad decisions. Lose friendships. Lose our focus; lose our self.
I think Lysa TerKeurst summed it up best: ”We can’t look to our feelings to determine truth. We must look to truth to reign in our feelings.”
