Lesson Number 92014

I should’ve known that I was being prepared for a disappointing day when I read my devotions this morning.… “Try to see things more and more from My perspective….When little things don’t go as you had hoped, look to Me lightheartedly and say, “Oh, well.” ~ Jesus Calling. That was only a small part of the message, but I think you get the idea.

Today is my brother’s birthday. He only called me 3 times this week to remind me. Lol. Every time we talked, he asked me if I mailed his card. I wanted to do something special this year, so I called him this morning and asked if he wanted to meet me at the Old Greenwood Park (a special place for us because my dad would always take us there), then walk over to Mrs. Curl and get some ice cream. (Mrs. Curl has been there forever!) My brother’s response: Why don’t you just come here? Are you bringing my card???

When I got there, I could tell something was different.  He normally has all kinds of questions and shares what’s happened recently in his life. Let’s just say that he’s way more talkative than I am. We did talk some today, but not much. When he opened up his birthday card, he smiled – but THEN he totally stopped talking!  That’s when I  asked if something was wrong, and he assured me that everything was fine. I finally asked if he was ready for me to leave, and he said YES! The reason? He wanted to go shopping with the money I had just given him. It IS his special day, so what do you say? He might be 48, but he has the mindset of a kid. An honest kid. Although I appreciate the honesty – the truth hurts when your gift means more than anything else.

On my way home, I thought about how often I do the exact same thing with God. I go to him in prayer – every single day –  with requests. When  I am blessed to see an answer to prayer, I often get caught up in the blessing instead of keeping my focus on the giver. Thank you, Rob, for lesson number 9204.

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Cor. 4:18
