Neglect = Regret

When I was driving by our neighborhood pool recently, fun summer memories began to flood my thoughts. I remember one particular summer day that I spent with my three sons.  I grabbed some money for snacks and our  beach towels, then we headed to the pool for the day.  Simple, but good.

 When the boys were in the pool, I was trying to get some sun on my backside, so I pretty much glued myself to my towel (stomach side) for what seemed like forever. It was hot, but there was a gentle breeze that made it a perfect day to be in the sun. I not only got to watch my boys have fun, I was able to spend some time with my friends,  and simply enjoy the day.

After a few hours, I finally felt the need to cool down. You know that feeling – it’s almost like you’ve just pulled down a door to a hot oven.  Just smacks you in the face! As soon as the lifeguard blew the whistle for the adults to get in, I headed for the ladder.   I remember stepping down slowly into the cool water, and instead of feeling relief –  I felt pain!  All of a sudden I realized that I had forgotten to apply sunscreen on my legs. Needless to say, I paid the price for neglecting to do so – for many days. And not only did I notice it, anyone who saw my legs knew I was in pain, too! There was nooooo hiding it.

I think sin can be like that. When you neglect to do what’s right, you experience pain in one way or another – for days, or for a lifetime. You may be able to hide it from a few, but eventually everyone notices it. You can’t hide sin – especially from God.

Life is short. It’s time to think about who you are living for – God, or people?

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galations 1:10
