Are You Listening?
There’s a song that we sing at church that I have a love/hate relationship with sometimes. We don’t sing it often, but when we do – it humbles me. As soon as I hear the first few notes, I know what’s coming. As I sing the words, tears well up and roll down my cheeks because the message always puts things into perspective – just when I need it.
Do you remember those times when your mom or dad would ask you to sit down and tell you that it was time for a talk? Perhaps they called it a ‘family’ meeting? You knew what that meant. It wasn’t a time for you to be praised, more of a time to set things straight. I think that’s how God works. He finds a way to get our attention. Perhaps he calls our name through a song, scripture, or a friend – then he puts life into perspective for us. Not always a comfortable feeling, but it’s times like these that we know how much he cares – how much he loves us.
He has called us to be obedient – Ecclesiastes 12:13-14. He proved his love for us and provided a way for us to spend eternity with him – John 3:16. He has a plan for us – Jeremiah 29:11.

“You’re the One who walked on water, and you calmed the raging seas. You command the highest mountains to fall upon their knees. You’re the One who welcomed sinners and you opened blinded eyes. You restored the brokenhearted and you brought the dead to life. Forgetting all our sins. You remember all your promises. You are amazing. More than amazing. Forever our God. You’re more than enough….” Lincoln Brewster
Aw, man! Love that song! It’s been awhile since I heard it. Thank you for the reminder.
I hadn’t either, until this past Sunday. You’re welcome!
