Do you Love me?
Have you ever been so exhausted because of a challenge – to the point that you just wanted to throw your hands up and say, “OK! I GIVE UP?!” I’ve had several challenges lately that have really taken the wind out of my sail, but this afternoon – something really got my attention.
When I got home from school today, I could not wait to see my new puppy, Bogey. I’ve only known him since Thursday, and I already love that little guy to death. I’ve provided him with everything he needs – food and water, nice place to sleep (ha), a new collar and leash, LOTS of rules, quality playing time, and then of course – toys. I look forward to spending time with him every chance I get. I’m so thankful that we took the chance and chose him to be a part of our family.
We were playing this afternoon, and I noticed that everything that I didn’t want him to do – he did anyway. He tried to jump up on the furniture. He tried to chew on my sweater. He started playing with his water bowl, getting water all over the floor. Last thing – he started to poop in the living room, but thankfully I caught him in time to get him outside. I. Am. Exhausted! I had to remind myself that he’s a puppy – and that one day he’ll hopefully love me as much as I do him – and obey my rules.
I know this may seem like a strange analogy to some, but I have to admit that I’m no better than my puppy when it comes to certain things. I think of the many times that I have failed the Lord – the ONE who loves me more than anything and has given me everything I need. Seriously, what more could anyone ask for? He’s given me all the guidelines that I need to have a happy life…. an eternal life, yet I sometimes choose to do my own thing – over and over. I have to wonder if he doesn’t feel the hurt and frustration as I did this afternoon with Bogey. I truly hate to think about it….
Sometimes I guess I need that reminder to stop focusing on my circumstances, and just simply do what is right. So comforting to know that we are not alone in this journey, isn’t it?
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” Psalm 32:8
“If you love me, keep my commands.” John 14:15
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
