What is Your Hobby?

I used to hate it when I got to the section on a job application where you listed your hobbies. I would often wonder if it would be appropriate to list Zumba or running. I was a fulltime mom. Who had time to do anything else?! I was so excited when I realized this weekend that I finally have a hobby – photography.

If you know me at all, then you know how much I love to take pictures. My favorite ones are of my family, friends, our preschool kids, and sunsets. It has developed into something that I love to do – for many reasons.

I have found sunsets to be the most challenging pictures to get.  I can’t tell you how many times I have pulled my car over to the side of the road, or turned down a country road, just so that I could take a picture of an amazing sky. Believe me, I have embarrassed my family –  many times!

There were countless evenings when I was inside my home, and I would catch a glimpse through my little kitchen window of the different colors that stretched across the sky. I would stop what I was doing, grab my car keys and camera, and head out to a place where I could hopefully capture the moment.  I admit that I have questioned myself WHY this has  become so important. No doubt – I  see them as a gift by our maker. I feel his presence every single time.

I’ve been looking through some photos and discovered several that didn’t have those vibrant colors – more like gray, blue and white.  Such a good reminder that life isn’t always going to be filled with those beautiful moments – sometimes it may appear to be bleak. The important thing to remember is that God is still there. He’s always there….

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

  1. That’s a beautiful analogy and those are gorgeous photos! Sunsets have become my picture taking passion too, since moving here 4 years ago. God has blessed us with a backyard that faces SW next to a farmer’s field. It’s like a front-row seat to nightly masterpiece theatre and amazes me how I hadn’t really noticed the sky much before moving here 🙂 ❤

    • Thank you for your kind comments! Sounds like you live in the perfect place! I never really paid that much attention to the sky or sunsets until this last year, and NOW I can’t wait for them.

      • I hear ya! The sky’s the limit, although where we live now was not part of “our” plan (pretty far north with nearest family a day’s drive away). But God brought us here and sustains us still. May your camera be filled with blessings from above 🙂 ❤
