He Knows Your Heart
I have to confess that recently…..Christmas music of any kind has made me sad. Because of that, I dreaded going to church last Sunday. I KNEW what was coming – something that my husband absolutely loves – Christmas Carols. Like, I’m probably the only one on this planet who feels this way, but it’s true. Whether I’m in a car, shopping mall, or even in church – the tears well up when I hear those old familiar songs from long ago.
So, for once in my life, I didn’t sing a single word as the congregation stood up and sang several. Even though all those who stood around me were singing their hearts out, I still couldn’t do it. I just didn’t ‘feel’ it. I knew that God could see my heart, and I knew this wasn’t a place to pretend. You may fool a lot of people, but you can’t fool God.
I just kept asking God “What is wrong with me?!” That not knowing is a killer, isn’t it?
As the worship team concluded with “Joy to the World”, this Scripture came to mind: “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my Savior and my God.” – Psalm 42:11
I love it when God’s word comes to mind – just when it’s needed. I couldn’t have picked more appropriate words to describe what I was feeling – even if I had googled it! It gave me chills as I realized that God knew what I was going through.
Although I didn’t receive any kind of revelation through the sermon that made everything ‘ok’, the confirmation that God was listening to my thoughts and prayers AND understood my heart – that’s all that really mattered. THAT’S all I needed to know.
“Kneeling on this battle ground
Seeing just how much You’ve done
Knowing every victory
Is Your power in us
Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Yes, our hearts can say
Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did You leave us on our own,
You are faithful
God, You are faithful.” ~ Never Once – Matt Redman
I learned something new about you, I should be more observant then I would have known! Thank you for sharing your God experiences, many times we aren’t open to those moments. Such a blessing when we are!!
I learned something new about me, too. lol. You are so right – we often miss the blessing. Love you, friend!
